I’ve been to Hemingway’s Tavern on W. Hibiscus Blvd in Melbourne more times than I can count, and I never get tired of it. If you’re looking for a spot with great food, a warm atmosphere, and a little something extra, this place has it all. Whether I’m catching up with friends or just craving my favorite Cuban sandwich, Hemingway’s never disappoints. The restaurant is located in a lively plaza, right next to the theater, which makes it a perfect spot for dinner and a movie. It’s a complete evening out! The plaza has this relaxed, welcoming vibe, and as soon as you step into the restaurant, you’re hit with a sense of laid-back comfort that makes you want to settle in for a while.

The decor is a nod to the legendary writer Ernest Hemingway and his love for Cuba and adventure. Think vintage typewriters, old books, and photographs that transport you to another era. There’s something so charming about the mix of dark wood, tropical plants, and soft lighting that makes you feel like you’ve just stepped into a Cuban retreat. It’s an atmosphere that feels both cozy and lively at the same time, perfect for a casual night out or a special occasion.

One of my favorite parts of Hemingway’s Tavern is their courtyard. It’s the perfect spot for enjoying the Florida weather while sipping on one of their signature cocktails or a perfectly brewed cafecito. There’s something about sitting outside, feeling the breeze, and taking in the ambiance that really completes the experience.
As for the food, it’s easy to see why Hemingway’s is so popular. The menu is packed with flavorful, authentic Cuban dishes, and there’s something for everyone. While I love exploring different options, my go-to is always the Cuban sandwich. The perfect blend of ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on a crispy, pressed Cuban bread—it’s hands-down the best I’ve had in the area. I’ve brought many friends here over the years, and they’re always impressed, especially when they try the sandwich for the first time!
Other popular items on the menu include the ropa vieja and the mojo marinated chicken, both bursting with flavor. The variety of tapas and Cuban-inspired plates means you can sample a bit of everything, and I always end up sharing a few appetizers to start.

Hemingway’s Tavern has become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike, not just because of the food but because of the experience it offers. The backstory is a tribute to Ernest Hemingway himself, with the restaurant capturing the essence of his adventurous spirit and love for Cuban culture. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re part of a story, and every visit feels special.
Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite, a leisurely meal with friends, or a full evening out with dinner and a movie, Hemingway’s Tavern is the place to go. It’s more than just a restaurant—it’s an experience, and one that I’m always happy to share with others.
